Orchids originally come from tropical regions, such as South Asia. There, they grew as epiphytes on trees and living plants. Orchids don&#8217;t root in the ground, but attach their roots to other living greenery. This allows them to get nutrients from light, air, and water to nourish their leaves and elegant flowers.     <\/em><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Because orchids don&#8217;t root in soil, orchid nurseries use special potting soil, namely orchid bark. <\/em><em>This specially developed tree bark meets the requirements to nourish orchids well and allow water to flow through properly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Caring for orchids<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>1. What is the best location for orchids?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Your new orchids are in your home, but what is the best location for them? Welcome them by giving them a nice spot in the house where they can bloom well. Orchids love a bright spot, but don&#8217;t put them in direct sunlight, as this is harmful to the leaves and flowers. In terms of temperature, the Phalaenopsis orchid prefers a room temperature between 17 and 22 degrees.   <\/p>\n<p>Besides direct sunlight, make sure your Kolibri Orchids:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are not placed directly near a heater or radiator; the air around these warm spots is too dry for orchids.<\/li>\n<li>Are not placed next to a fruit bowl. Many types of fruit release a natural substance called ethylene. This substance can speed up the aging process of orchids.  <\/li>\n<li>Are not placed in a draft; the cold air can cause yellow buds to form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>2. How to water orchids? <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Now that your orchids are in the right place, it&#8217;s time to care for them further and water them. But what&#8217;s the best way to water your Phalaenopsis orchid? Watering is important and you can do this once a week. Briefly submerge the orchids with their plastic nursery pot in water. Let the orchids drain well before putting them back in the decorative pot, otherwise too much water will remain. When too much water stays in the nursery pot, the roots can rot and the orchids will die.     <\/p>\n<p><em>How can I tell if my orchids need water? <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Before you start your orchid care routine, first look at the roots of each orchid; this will show you if watering is necessary. Do you see that the roots are light gray? Great, time to water. Are they dark green? Wait a bit with watering; they still have enough water to nourish themselves.    <\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>3. Orchid food<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Orchids bloom for about eight weeks and drop their flowers around this time. How can you make your orchid care even better? By using <a href=\"https:\/\/kolibricompany.com\/product\/orchideeen-voeding\/\">orchid food<\/a>, you can make your orchids bloom even longer and more beautifully. Do this once every two months by adding a nutrient drop to one liter of water. Then submerge your Kolibri Orchids in the water.    <\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. My orchid is getting yellow buds<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Brr&#8230; don&#8217;t let it get too cold. Orchids get yellow buds when it&#8217;s cold. This also happens if they get too much water during orchid care or are in a dark spot. Do you see yellow buds? Check if it could be a result of these mentioned causes. When you see yellow buds on your Phalaenopsis orchid, you can remove them. This is not harmful to the plant.      <\/p>\n<h2><strong>5. My orchid is losing buds and flowers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>After your orchids have been given a nice spot in the house, it can happen that they lose their buds and flowers. The causes at a glance: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Too much direct sunlight;<\/li>\n<li>Orchids are in a draft;<\/li>\n<li>Dehydration from being too close to the central heating;<\/li>\n<li>Orchid is too wet, also when water remains in the pot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>6. Making Phalaenopsis orchids bloom again<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>How to care for your orchid after blooming? We&#8217;ll tell you the best way to do this. Your new orchids will eventually finish blooming. Fortunately, orchids can bloom again and shine with their colorful flowers. To make them bloom again, there are a few steps, including an important one we get questions about: &#8216;Where to cut the orchid?&#8217;.    <\/p>\n<p>Step 1. Prune the Kolibri Orchids orchid<br \/>\nHas your orchid finished blooming? Then cut the stem above the second eye (thickening) of the stem.  <\/p>\n<p>Step 2. Time to cool down<br \/>\nTo ensure new buds form, the orchid should be placed in a slightly cooler spot (approx. 15 &#8211; 20\u00b0C) during this care phase. An orchid can also develop buds in a warmer room, but not as well.  <\/p>\n<p>Step 3. And now&#8230; rest<br \/>\nLeave the Phalaenopsis orchid for one to two months and water it sparingly during this period. One to a maximum of two times the normal weekly amount.  <\/p>\n<p>Step 4. The second life of your orchid has begun<br \/>\nIt will take about 100 days from cutting the stems to get the orchid to bloom again. <\/p>\n<h2><strong>7. How do I repot my orchids?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Did you know that Phalaenopsis orchids from Kolibri Orchids last longer? After two years, their roots have grown and the nursery pot becomes too small. It&#8217;s time to repot the orchids and get a new, larger pot to put them in. Are orchids toxic to cats and dogs?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Do you have pets at home that sometimes bite plants? Fortunately, orchids are not toxic and you can let your loyal four-legged friend roam around the house, although taking a bite is not recommended. Make sure children don&#8217;t do this either; orchid sap can cause mild skin irritation, but nothing serious.  <\/p>\n<h2><strong>9. Why is my orchid getting yellow leaves and flowers?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Are you seeing yellow leaves appearing on your orchid? Keep in mind that this is a symptom of too much water. Limp flowers, on the other hand, are caused by too little water; the flowers and leaves hang limp due to the drought. If you see this symptom, submerge your orchid for a bit longer, be patient, and your orchid will look beautiful again.   <\/p>\n<h2><strong>10.
