Did you know that we work exclusively with biological crop protection in our greenhouses? This means we don't use any chemical pesticides, but instead use nature itself to keep our orchids healthy and strong.

Of course, you mainly see the beautiful flowering orchid on your table. But behind the scenes, much more happens to let that plant grow in a natural way. In this blog, we'll take you through our green approach.

What is biological crop protection?

Biological crop protection means that we control pests with their natural enemies. Instead of chemical agents, we use small predatory mites, for example, that tackle harmful insects.

One of the pests that orchid growers must be alert to is thrips. These are small insects that can cause damage to leaves and flowers. By using predatory mites, we tackle the problem at the source – in a smart and natural way.

This keeps the ecosystem in our greenhouse in balance.

Smart technology helps nature

In our greenhouses, we combine biology with the latest modern techniques. Every day, a drone flies over the crop. This drone identifies spots where plants need extra attention at a very early stage.

This allows us to make very targeted adjustments and deploy extra biological protection exactly where it’s needed. No waste and no unnecessary agents, just tailor-made care where required.

Our grower Rob talks about this in Kolibri Green Talks:

“We put nature itself to work. With natural enemies, such as small predatory mites. That’s how we tackle pests in a smart, biological way.”

Eye for detail

Besides technology, craftsmanship remains indispensable. Every day we walk through the greenhouse and check the plants with a magnifying glass. This way, we see early on if everything is still in balance.

Thanks to this careful approach, our orchids grow into strong, healthy plants that will continue to shine in your home for a long time.

We participate in 100% Green Grown

Our nursery participates in the 100% Green Grown project. Within this project, growers work entirely with biological crop protection and minimize their impact on the environment.

This means:
