About butterfly orchids

Butterfly orchids are epiphytes and originally grow in tropical rainforests on trees and living plants. They do not root in the ground but attach themselves to other living greenery with their roots. Naturally, they also need nutrition, which they get from light, air, and water. In the Netherlands, there are now various orchid nurseries that grow these beautiful, exotic flowers. You will find them in various solid colors, such as pink, purple, orange, and white, but there are also orchids with spectacular patterns on their flowers. This way, you can eventually buy your favorite butterfly orchids. Tip! View our most popular orchid colors here: Did you know... There are many more orchids? Caring for butterfly orchids | 4 tips

Caring for butterfly orchids is simple, but there are a few things to keep in mind. They need a lot of light, so place them in a bright window or under artificial light. Also keep them moist, but not too wet. If the leaves of the orchid start to discolor, it's a sign they are too dry. Another important aspect of caring for butterfly orchids is trimming the flowers. When the flowers start to wilt, it's time to cut them off. This ensures that the plant can continue to develop and produce new flowers. Read all about orchid care here. Once the orchids leave the greenhouse, you naturally want to enjoy them for as long as possible. We provide several tips to keep your moth orchids blooming beautifully and for a long time. Did you know they can bloom again? We will explain this later in the text. Care tips for moth orchids:
  • Be careful with watering; too much water causes roots to rot, flowers to wilt, and buds to turn yellow. Before watering, check if the roots are light grey; this is the time to water your moth orchids. If the roots are green, you can wait a little longer before watering.
  • Caring for and maintaining Phalaenopsis orchids also involves giving them the right location. Place them in a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight to prevent the flowers from burning.
  • Moth orchids love warm temperatures, so place them in a room with a temperature of at least 15 degrees. If an orchid gets too cold, the buds may drop.
  • Moth orchids bloom for about 8 weeks, and with the help of orchid food, your orchid will stay beautiful even longer! You dilute this special food in water, which is then absorbed by the orchid.
