Mini orchids: be surprised by their beauty

You come across orchids in various pot sizes. The most popular are orchids in pot sizes 9 and 12 centimeters, which we also grow in the Kolibri Company nursery. In addition, there are also mini orchids. These are orchids with a pot size of 6 centimeters.

So our orchids are not mini orchids, but if your orchid is happy, it is possible for a mini orchid to grow from your larger orchid! In this blog article, we would love to tell you more.

Mini orchids

Mini orchids are also known as dwarf orchids and, just like larger orchids, they enchant your interior with their colors. You can find them in everything from subtle pastel shades to vibrant and deep colors. Their flowers are no larger than a coin. Due to their small size, mini orchids fit anywhere indoors, such as on windowsills, desks, or even on bookshelves.

How do you care for a mini orchid?

If you already have Kolibri Company orchids in your home, you probably know how to care for them. The same orchid care tips apply to these. Here are the important tips for caring for a mini orchid at a glance:

  • Light

Provide indirect light, which means the orchids are not in bright sunlight. Are the orchids on a windowsill? Then make sure they receive filtered sunlight, for example, by having a roller blind block the light.

  • Temperature

Mini orchids thrive in a room temperature between 16 and 24 degrees. Avoid extreme cold, heat, or drafts.

  • Humidity

Orchids originally come from tropical climates, so they love a humid environment. Make sure the air in your home isn’t too dry. Are you putting your orchid in the bathroom? Watch out that it doesn’t stay damp for too long due to steam. If the orchid stays in a humid room for too long, it will get too much water.

  • Watering

Mini orchids need less water than our orchids. Make sure the bark has dried out and only water when you see that the roots are light gray. While watering, submerge the orchid’s nursery pot in water for five minutes. After this, remove the orchid from the water and let it drain well before putting it back in the decorative pot.
