At Kolibri, we consciously choose cardboard packaging instead of plastic. This way, we reduce the use of single-use plastic in floriculture and take a concrete step towards a more sustainable orchid.
No more plastic sleeves or trays
Traditionally, orchids are transported in a plastic tray surrounded by a plastic protective sleeve. This protects the plant during transport, but also creates a lot of plastic waste.
We do things differently.
Our orchids go to the garden center in sturdy, recyclable cardboard boxes. With these, we replace both the plastic tray and the plastic sleeve. The box provides protection and stability without the need for extra plastic.
This is how we limit the use of packaging material that is only used once.
Also online: sustainably packaged to your front door
Are you ordering an orchid via our webshop? Then we continue that trend.
We don’t use plastic sleeves for online orders either. Your orchid is protected with a cardboard sleeve and shipped in a sturdy cardboard shipping box. This way, we ensure that the plant arrives safely and stably at your home, while simultaneously minimizing the use of plastic.
Whether you buy at the garden center or order online: the packaging is a conscious choice.
Why do we choose cardboard?
Cardboard has a number of important advantages:
-
It is recyclable
-
It can easily be disposed of with waste paper
-
It replaces multiple plastic parts at once
-
It provides sturdy protection during transport
By switching to cardboard, we reduce the amount of plastic in our chain. This aligns with the growing demand for plastic-free plants, sustainable orchids, and environmentally friendly packaging.
A conscious choice for green
We believe that sustainability is not just about how a plant grows, but also about how it is transported and packaged. With our cardboard packaging, we are taking a practical step towards less waste and more recyclable materials.
When you bring a Kolibri orchid into your home, you are choosing a plant that not only adds atmosphere but is also packaged with care for the environment.
Together, we make green just a little bit greener.
