New: watering system for orchids

At Kolibri Company, we believe it’s important that our customers are well-assisted and receive only the most beautiful orchids. And we know that watering orchids can sometimes be a challenge. So after extensive research, product development, and testing with our grower Rob, we can finally offer it: our very own watering system for orchids!

With our watering system, you’ll never give your orchid too much or too little water again. While too much water can lead to root rot and too little water is also harmful to your orchid, our watering system ensures you always give your orchid exactly the right amount of water. This makes your orchid last even longer! It’s the perfect way to keep your orchid alive. Think of it as hydroponics for orchids.

There are already many different watering systems for plants on the market, but not yet for orchids. Automatic watering ensures that plants always receive the right amount of water without you having to constantly think about it. Perfect for people without green thumbs or when you go on holiday.

What is hydroponics?

Hydroponics is a watering technique where so-called hydro granules or clay pebbles are placed at the bottom of the decorative pot. These granules absorb water and nutrients and release them gradually when the plant needs them. This allows plants to take up as much water and nutrition as they need, resulting in an overall longer-living plant.

Orchids don’t grow in soil but have aerial roots. In nature, they grow on trees, which is why they are also known as epiphytes. In pots, you’ll therefore always see orchids with tree bark instead of potting soil. Because of this, hydroponics is not possible for orchids, but with our new watering system, the same principle can now be mimicked!

The perfect amount of water for your plant

At Kolibri Company, we understand how important it is to provide orchids with the right care. That’s why, in addition to our extensive orchid care tips, we have now developed an innovative watering system specifically for orchids. Our system is designed to prevent root rot and continuously provide orchids with exactly the right amount of water, so you can enjoy the most beautiful orchids for even longer.

How does it work?

The orchids stay in their nursery pot, which is then placed inside a larger pot. This larger nursery pot has a water reservoir at the bottom. The nursery pot and the water reservoir are connected by a string. This string wicks up the water from the reservoir, keeping the nursery pot moist. This way, the Phalaenopsis always has enough water, but never more than necessary. This prevents excess water in the nursery pot, giving root rot no chance. Moreover, you don’t have to submerge your orchid every week, and it’s no problem if you forget once.
