To give you a look behind the scenes, we’re introducing you to Dominika in this blog. She talks about her introduction to Kolibri and her growth within the company to become a staking department supervisor.
Onwards to a 12.5-year anniversary
‘’My journey at Kolibri Company started about 10 years ago. I started here through an employment agency and worked in various production departments. I’m from Poland and didn’t speak Dutch at the time. During my work, I decided to learn Dutch and went to school for it. By learning the Dutch language, I was able to perform more tasks within the company. This led to taking on new roles, and I’ve now been working at Kolibri for about 10 years!’’
Staking supervisor
‘’Our Kolibri Orchids pass through various production departments, including the staking department. This is a department where orchids arrive unstaked, but leave the department with a stake attached to the branches. After they are staked, the orchids are sorted by a camera based on the number of branches and branch length. Many automatic processes take place in this department, but we also work with a large team to stake all the orchids. To ensure this department runs as smoothly as possible, I am the supervisor. This role includes checking the machines, solving any malfunctions, and determining which orchid varieties need to be staked. I regularly have chats with my team to ensure everyone works with pleasure and happiness.”
Because we work with different cultures within our company, I translate our internal newsletter for our Polish employees. This way, every employee is involved in company events and kept well-informed.’’
Kolibri day
‘’Just like all production departments, the staking department starts around 7:00 AM. I start a bit earlier to start up the machines and check if everything is working properly. Then I organize who sits where for staking and sorting to ensure the day runs as efficiently as possible. I regularly attend meetings with my manager and the sales team to ensure we are on schedule.’’

‘’The best thing about my job is the opportunity to constantly learn and grow. My work is very varied and I enjoy communicating with my colleagues. I love the conversations I have with the staff and the challenges the work brings.’’
