Twelve years ago, Kolibri Company experienced growth, which led to a new position becoming available. This role was filled by Jeffrey. Among other things, he is involved in the procurement of production materials and inventory management. A big job, because thanks to the Kolibri Home collection, we have more than 2,000 pallets in our storage. Curious about his work? Get to know Jeffrey in this blog.
At Kolibri for 12 years
‘’My adventure at Kolibri started 12 years ago. I originally applied for a sales position, but eventually, I was hired for a different role. The company was growing fast and there was a need for extra manpower, which created a vacancy for a buyer, for which I can almost celebrate my 12.5-year anniversary!’’
Role as a buyer
‘’As a buyer, I am responsible for managing the stock materials at Kolibri. These include many materials for various production departments, but also for the offices or printed matter such as catalogues. Think also of materials like pot covers, sticks, and sleeves for the Kolibri Orchids and office supplies like paper and envelopes. In addition, I keep track of the stock in our inventory management system, because with our Kolibri Home range, we have a large inventory. It is important to keep a close eye on this, so that there are enough decorative pots to send out with the orders. I also help our labor planner by keeping track of the time registration for our Kolibri employees.’’
A typical day at Kolibri
‘’Like many, I start my day with coffee and checking our employees’ hours. I start every day behind my computer to answer emails from suppliers and request new quotes. Keeping track of the stock is also a daily task, and I regularly perform checks to see if the inventory management is still correct. Here I check whether the new stock is delivered on time and if there is enough space available in our warehouse. If this isn’t right, we have to find a solution with the team to free up space.’’
Your favorite Kolibri Orchids is…
‘’At Kolibri, we only have beautiful orchids 😉, so it’s hard to choose a favorite.’’
A notable period
‘’For me, the period around the end-of-year count stands out. Many employees are on vacation then, so there is less staff available to recount the stock. We’re not talking about two pallets of decorative pots here; it can involve as many as 2,000 pallets. External companies perform audits at the end of the year, so everything must be correct. With over 2,000 pallets of ceramics, sleeves, pot covers, and more, this is a huge task.’’
Developments
‘’Due to internal shifts within Kolibri, I am being assigned more and more tasks. For example, I am now responsible for our employees’ time registration and I create schedules for our team. The best thing about my job is the growth opportunities the company makes possible. Working in a young and driven team also makes working at Kolibri fun. We work well together and bring out the best in each other.’’
