Is yoga good before bed?
In our busy and hectic world, it’s sometimes difficult to find a good night’s sleep. Many people suffer from insomnia, which can lead to fatigue and stress. When you unwind before bed, there’s a better chance you’ll fall asleep faster. So, it’s good to regularly perform yoga exercises.
Which yoga exercises are there?
Calm your mind and let your body unwind before bed. Discover four exercises that are great for beginners.
Exercise 1 – Legs up the wall
Fully prepare yourself for bedtime. Sit on your bed facing the wall or the headboard, about 15 centimeters away. Lie down and bring your legs up against the wall. If this is too intense for you, move a bit further from the wall. Let your arms rest at your sides with palms facing up, breathe calmly in and out while feeling the muscles at the back of your legs stretch. These exercises help stimulate blood circulation before sleep.
Exercise 2 – Knees to chest
Lie on your back and bend your knees toward your chest. Wrap your arms around your legs and cross your ankles if you like. Place your hands together and gently rock your legs back and forth. Perform this bedtime yoga exercise for about two minutes while continuing to breathe calmly. If you want to create even more peace in the room, orchids can help. They provide a calm atmosphere in the room where you perform the exercises.
Exercise 3 – Child’s pose
Start this pose by getting on your hands and knees. Place the tops of your feet on the mat and lower your hips toward your heels, while spreading your knees as wide as your hips. Make sure your big toes stay together. You can choose to lay your arms beside you with palms facing up, or stretch them forward. Then, bring your forehead to the floor while your belly rests on your thighs. Relax your shoulders and breathe calmly in and out. After a few minutes, you can move on to the next yoga pose.
Exercise 4 – Lying still
This pose serves as the conclusion to your bedtime yoga session. Lie on your back and relax your arms and legs. It’s important during this bedtime yoga exercise that you don’t get cold, so you can place a blanket over yourself. Close your eyes and breathe deeply through your nose. Feel how your body becomes soft and heavy on the floor, while your chest moves up and down with every breath. Take the time to scan from your toes to your fingers to the crown of your head and look for any tension or stiffness. Tense briefly, then let go and relax. Sink deeper into a state of total relaxation. Practice this exercise for about 5 to 15 minutes.
