Our nurseries are full of beautiful Kolibri Orchids. With our wide collection of Kolibri Orchids, a large team of Kolibri employees is ready to help. A notable team member among all these employees is staff planner Kevin. He is responsible for staff planning and is the one who ensures our staff knows where they need to work and in which production department.
At Kolibri for more than 13 years
“After traveling at sea during my time in the navy, I felt that this wasn’t my calling. When I left for good, I decided to work for a year before going back to study. As a teenager, I had a part-time job at Kolibri and sent my former colleague a message asking if I could come back to work for a year. After some nice chats, I could start right away as the person responsible for the staking department. Little did I know that this meant I’d already be working at Kolibri for more than thirteen years!”
The point of contact for Kolibri staff
“When I started at Kolibri, I got into production where I was responsible for the staking department and internal logistics. During this period, I immediately noticed that I enjoy leading staff and being a point of contact. Due to the growth of the nursery, there was an increasing need for staff planning and I was given the opportunity to develop as a team leader. Eventually, I grew into the role of staff planner! I ensure that the staffing in the production departments is used optimally.
In addition, I am responsible for ensuring that communication with staff and task managers runs smoothly, and I guide staff to ensure they perform a suitable role. Kolibri Company is a growing company that is always looking for staff, so I work a lot with our HR employees.”
A Kolibri day for Kevin
“Before the Kolibri staff arrives, I check if that day’s schedule is correct. This can be a big puzzle because every employee has different working days. When an extra order comes in or someone is sick, the schedule has to be adjusted. So flexibility is very important in this role. In addition, I deal with the cooperation in the production departments on a daily basis and I am a link between the task managers of those departments.”
Because I really enjoy being in contact with the staff, I am the confidential counselor within our company. This makes me a point of contact when an employee needs help with a private or work situation. Within Kolibri Company, we find it very important that everyone feels good or knows they can brainstorm with a colleague if they have questions.”

“Two Kolibri Orchids that stand out for me are definitely the Morelia and El Salvador!”
Spring is the biggest challenge
“One of the most notable periods for me is spring. This is a busy period due to holidays like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. During these days, a smooth-running schedule is essential. The departments must be well-coordinated. It’s a challenge for me to create a schedule during this period, as there’s a high chance I’ll have to adjust it daily.”
Development and growth opportunities
“Even after thirteen years, I continue to develop and grow in my role. Recently, I’ve become responsible for leading the task managers of the production departments. This is the best part of my job! Being in contact with colleagues and helping and managing them. This allows me to get the best out of employees and empower them.”
